Following on from last month's single GODSPEED, the namesake of their upcoming album, out November 28th, These New South Whales have returned today with their sprightly new effort, MISS HER. Taken from the forthcoming record, the track channels their driving energy into a collision of vivid melodies and punk-fueled power. Jamie Timony reflects: “Over the couple of years we were writing and recording, a few close friends lost people very dear to them. I was thinking of them while recording the vocals. I think about death quite a lot. Definitely got a bit of death anxiety. It scares me – the thought that it can all just change so drastically at any time. Your whole life can be rocked in a single moment. Flipped upside down forever. I sometimes find it sad and kinda scary that the party must come to an end, and that at some stage we have to experience the suffering of losing the ones we love. But this is life, I suppose!” Take a listen below.

Aussie punks These New South Whales have returned this week with their snarling new single INSTINCT. With towering choruses, charging guitars and exhilarating riffs the track serves as an exciting introduction to what lays ahead with no holds barred. “I’ve wasted so much energy over the years worrying about what other people think," vocalist Jamie Timony explains. “It’s such a futile, counterproductive pursuit – one of those lessons I’m always having to re-learn. The chorus lyrics are a mantra for a different way of thinking. The vocals felt triumphant and empowering – the song put us all in a really good mood the day we wrote it. Irish trio Adore have this week released their brand new single 'Stay Free Old Stranger,' ahead of three nights supporting Chalk in Belfast along with a string of headline shows. Packed with an explosive punk energy and a distinct urgency the track offers up another exciting look ahead for what lays in store. "I wrote Stay Free Old Stranger when I was 16 years old with my best friend Lauren, and sonically was inspired by a lot of what I was listening to when I was a teenager: The Jam, Misfits, Frank Iero, Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre," says singer Lara Minchin. Speaking more on the song's inspiration, Lara says: "It was written at a time of great social anxiety which was seemingly breaking into a carefree disregard for small talk and empty relationships which I had once harboured to make myself feel wanted. I was badly bullied throughout my childhood and into my teens and because of that I was so eager for people to like me -and I would give time to people who didn’t have my best interests at hand. I had always been a freak and I had grown up in an unconventional manner. And although I didn’t change my interests and my way about life, I definitely covered up parts of myself to make myself more palatable. The lyrics are juvenile. They are telling the story of being aware that some people might not care for you and that’s okay because you don’t have to care for them either. You don’t have to be everybody’s friend." The new single comes ahead of a busy summer touring the US with Amy & The Sniffers, a string of festivals, their biggest headline show yet, and ending the year supporting IDLES at their sold-out London shows. “While many of our songs, are critiques of societal issues, Body of Mine is a little more personal,” Lambrini Girls explain of their newest offering, continuing,“This song is about trying to connect to your gender identity, feeling like you're not fully yourself, and struggling to figure out how to truly become it. Gender is a complex experience, we acknowledge that this song represents just one perspective among many, of not knowing where you fit inside it all. As i get back in to the habit of sourcing new music, a trip home from the gym, kicking it to the New Year's Resolution put me in the prime position of catching the end of MOULD's Birdsong on BBC 6 Music on the car's radio. The Bristol based outfit unveiled their angsty 2 minute number at the tail end of last year and it's a sure fire way to dust off the cobwebs in to 2024. Produced by Jon Mcmullen (Wet Leg, Michael Kiwanuka), frontman and guitarist Joe Sherrin said, “‘Birdsong’ was the first song we made together. The song is about how trying to be optimistic all the time is draining. Someone told me I have a positive demeanour and always try to see the good, but this song is about the personal cost of that.” Take a listen for yourselves below.

Ahead of their debut EP et cetera, etc out March 29, Australia's alt-punk outfit dust share their scintillating new effort Joy (Guilt). With chugging basslines and soaring guitar driven choruses, delivering a huge call to arms, the track's spoken words and hazy ambiance create a moving poetry of art. Coupled with the band's unattainable energy, Joy (Guilt) serves as another monstrous hit for the Awabakal / Newcastle natives. Speaking more about the single Gabriel explains “I wrote the lyrics in quite a turbulent and emotional time, collating lines that would come into my head or writing down things that people in my life had said. Lines that I thought were meaningful, funny or melancholy. Although unintentional, I think the lyrics come from an observational perspective or describe what my beliefs were at the time and remembering things that had been said to me in the past to shape those beliefs. I think it expresses the frustration of having no choice in how we’re brought up, what we’re told and the daily intake of information that constantly influences our behaviour. Leeds-based quintet Eades have this week shared their new single ‘Delusion Spree’ taken from their their highly anticipated debut album, out digitally on March 4th and physically on May 6th via Heist or Hit (Her’s, Pizzagirl, Brad Stank). “'Delusion Spree' was a very special song for the band when writing the album. Finishing the song felt like a turning point when we finally knew how we wanted the album to sound, and the direction we were headed in lyrically and sonically. It kind of opened the floodgates for the rest of the tunes! Thematically it summed up the disillusionment and confusion we all felt in our early twenties, trying to build a life for ourselves whilst the world around us seemed to be falling apart. Two years on I think we all feel quite differently towards the world and we’ve learnt to be a lot more positive as our hard work over the last couple years has started to pay off. Although at the time I think it’s safe to say we were all feeling pretty lost.” Take a listen for yourselves below.

Beach Bunny have recently returned with their brand new single “Oxygen”, produced by Sean O’Keefe, via Mom+Pop Music. Bristol-based outfit Home Counties get to grips with gentrification on their debut single Redevelopment. With bass-slapping riffs and infectious melody lines the track wastes no time demolishing anything in its path as their punk-influenced sound. “‘‘Redevelopment’ is about town redevelopment,” the band explain. “Lyrically, the first half of the song takes the view of 1960s redevelopers, with the second half addressing the tearing down of modernist buildings and replacing them with gentrified luxury flats. The song points out that these ideas of nostalgia, urban decay and progress come around in cycles. Fundamentally, it suggests that we should be as wary of arguments against redevelopment, as of redevelopment itself.” Take a listen for yourselves below. New Liverpool four-piece Hannah's Little Sister have unveiled their beautifully raucous debut single with an accompanying video courtesy of friend Beebo Boobin. Full of quirky vocal traits and thrashing guitars that endeavour to swallow you up, spitting out the half-eaten leftovers, 20's kick-ass sound is a breath of fresh air to a scene that's so often draped in repetition and mediocrity. Anyone who's gone through their twenties will know all too well the awkward coming of age phase where you're expected to act like an adult but know nothing of the sort and here the band capture that effortlessly. I'm sure we've all had first hand experience praying to the social Gods that your plans will get cancelled, all so you can spend the night in with your favourite trash TV show. With their debut album penned in for release this September, Norway's Sløtface return with their super fun new single, Pitted, and it's about pretty exactly that. "Pitted is our own little pep talk for getting out of the house when you would really prefer to stay in and chill on the couch" the band explain. "No, not every night out is killer, but sometimes those nights make the best stories and that song is full of good stories from bad nights out. Pitted is also the first song we've ever done with horns, so we're SUPER STOKED to release it. The trumpet is played by Norwegian jazz musician Simen Kiil Halvorsen". In hot anticipation of their debut album, Dilly Dally return with their latest single, Purple Rage, a hell-bent grungy anthem filled with anguished vocals and angular guitar riffs. Whilst normally a genre I tend to sidestep the band manage to create the perfect blend of expansive Rock scintillating with a defined punk edge. "Anger is such a powerful emotion" Explains vocalist Katie Monks. "This song is meant to be an anthem for channeling all the rage we have into something positive. When I have been badly hurt in the past, I am usually filled with a huge amount of energy. I always try to use that energy to make myself 'stronger' and 'tougher.' For me, that has meant working harder on the band plus my art shit, quitting cigarettes cold turkey after being a pack a day smoker, dying my hair weird colors, investing more energy into my friends...all kinds of stuff. It's kinda like you become a superhero version of yourself...and no one can fuck with you". Take a listen below for yourselves.
