Following the release of her recent singles "Do You Want To Be Honest?" and "It's Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)," Dutch-Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí returns with her latest track, "Trigger." The song, released ahead of the weekend, is taken from her forthcoming EP Another Year Will Pass, due out on October 31st and captures the emotional turmoil of unreciprocated love, set against a delicate, finger-picked guitar melody. Reflecting on the release, néomí shares: "The song is so real and painful I don't think it needs a lot of explaining. It's about being deeply in love with someone you know it will not work with. You've never felt like you really want to hold on, but you know either way it's going to hurt. Staying or leaving. Preparing your heart for the inevitable hurt and difficulties that come with that." Video director Dirkje Duwel gives some insight into the visual for "Trigger", "for this video, we drew inspiration from the iconic western stand-off. In a subtle, charged atmosphere, Neomi and Anna engage in a delicate challenge, gradually finding their way back to each other. Through the use of point-of-view shots and the intricate exchange of glances, we aimed to convey the tension to the viewer. Bringing this emotion to life on screen was a truly rewarding challenge." Built around its simplistic guitar melodies and fraught vocal deliverance, the track continues in the theme of navigating life with its emotional barriers. Lyrically, Eleni notes: "'Above Deep Water' opens up about the desolate feelings that come from moving through life alone. But it talks about the freedom, the understanding, the acceptance, and the revelry that comes with being alone too.” Swim serves as the final taster to the forthcoming EP. Speaking more on the release of "Swim" and how the song came to be, Eleni said: "I wrote this song after I had thought the EP was 'finished' but it came to me so quickly and I thought it fit in so perfectly with this body of work. The song itself is about someone making you feel like you need them, and that there's no one else you can rely on but them. The second part of the song showcases a feeling like I was losing myself slightly, and that I needed to seek this person out for comfort. But actually I am entirely independent, and I can mentally get myself out of any rut, set back, or pain I am going through. Australian folk singer Hazlett has recently released his emotively-charged new single Shiver via Nettwerk, taken from his upcoming new 6-Track EP out 4th October, which will see him complete his Goodbye to the Valley Low-project. Making exceptional use of the track's space comes a heart wrenching 3 minute 34 ode to self reflection as he questions the control he has on life's choices. Speaking about the single, Hazlett says, ‘I’ve always had this tug-o-war in my head of how much control do I really have of my life? Do I have to be petrified of every decision I make? Or do I just say whatever will be will be and sit back? I think to some extent whatever path we take life has a funny way of taking us to our destination anyway. But that only happens when we’re led by our gut, we have good intentions and we’re not scared to make the wrong choice. Sometimes it is just about choosing a door to open and being irrationally confident that the universe will guide you to where you need to go either way.’ Speaking further about the album's conception he shares, ‘Truth be told there was never meant to be a Side B to Goodbye to the
Valley Low, but the more that I tried moving on from it the more I kept
getting pulled back,’ Hazlett explains.‘I think being out there in the cabin brought out a lot of
initial feelings that I worked through and then after that I was left
with all these half thoughts and feelings that needed a little more work
to figure out. Which might be why it sounds a little
bit darker at times. If Side A was the curiosity of the cabin then Side
B is working through all the questions that it left behind.’

Following a mammoth support tour for Noah Kahan in Australia, he returns today with his brand new single Somewhere Between taken from the forthcoming new EP Songs In The Gravel, out March 22nd via EMI. On the new song, he says, “I wrote ‘Somewhere Between’ after watching a video about a man who spent his life living on a train. I was struck by his story and his true independence — I wanted to create my own version of his story. Following on from last month's single A Beautiful Day, Scottish songwriter Tommy Ashby returns with his inspiring new effort Not That Far to Go. Prefacing the lockdown, the track served a poignant and self reflective insight in to how to use your time meaningfully. "This song was written just a couple of months before the pandemic and it was surprising how relevant it became when covid came along." he explains. "Suddenly we were sitting at home with quite a lot of time on our hands to think and, for worriers, that isn't always positive. I guess the message of the song is to take stock of all the good things, focus on the present and accept that a lot of the stuff that happens to you is beyond your control. With just the fraught fragility of her glistening vocals and softly played acoustic guitar, I Never Danced showcases the broad and varied aspect of her talents and sets about adding another fine effort to her already lustrous catalogue. Commenting on her new track, Winnie explains: “When my partner and I started dating, she took my hand out of nowhere as we were cooking in the kitchen. She pulled me in and started to dance with me. It wasn’t to joke around, she genuinely just wanted to dance with me. For whatever reason, I freaked out in my head, and couldn’t just give in to the moment. I think I came up with some bad excuse to get out of it. And I remember being really frustrated and confused, as to why I couldn’t just allow that moment to happen. I realised that there are some things we’ve perhaps told ourselves we don’t do. For no other reason than we haven’t done it before, or I’m not that kind of person, or maybe insecurities. It could be a million things. And I realised that there are so many beautiful and fun moments we miss out on, simply because we stop ourselves from doing them. I wanted that to change. So now we dance all of the time, everywhere. The song isn’t really about dancing though. It’s really about how sometimes you can meet someone, it could be anyone, who somehow manages to unlock even the smallest things in you, that make you able to just enjoy things a little bit more. Today sees Scottish songwriter Tommy Ashby return with his warming new single A Beautiful Day. Filled with intricate guitar patterns and luscious folk melodies comes another glittering work of art from the promising musician. Speaking about the track Tommy goes on to say "'A Beautiful Day' describes how your memories can change in the remembering. Your recollection of a beautiful day changes over time, some details fall away and others come more sharply into focus. I also wanted to show how experiences are shaped by your mental state at the time. For example, the final verse describes rain on concrete, which wouldn't be a classically beautiful scene. But the words and music that envelop the scene mean that it is remembered wistfully. The verses describe snapshots of beautiful days, which is often how I remember things. My mind is definitely more of a camera than a video recorder. I grew up playing in a ceilidh band and singing the songs of Robert Burns. But I always felt that being a genuine traditional Scottish folk artist was something else that I couldn't grasp, it was an intimidating world. Any time I tried, I became overwhelmed by imposter syndrome. However, I’ve realised that Scottish trad music is a part of my musical identity, something I shouldn't shy away from. I've always loved it so if it seeps into my music, then I should welcome it rather than trying to ignore or remove it. You can hear folk influences on a beautiful day - the chorus came out of a fiddle tune I was noodling around with on my mandolin. I thought the tune really captured the joyous feel of the lyrics." Following on from Hollow and Pictures, Bridlington-based duo Seafret have recently announced plans for their new EP 'Anywhere From Here', due out October 7th. Coinciding with the news, the pair have revealed their latest single Running Out of Love, accompanied by a gripping video that perfectly captures their searingly intense lyrics and scintillating crescendos. Speaking about the new track, Jack said, "I had this image in my head about people looking at social media and seeing what seemed to be "perfect couples" and then going on to compare it to their own real life relationship and starting to doubt it but it doesn't compare to what they're seeing online. Running Out Of Love is a song about fighting for the one you love and trying to change their minds when doubt sets in." Racked in emotion, the track serves as another brilliantly powerful work of art, truly demonstrating his intricate songwriting talents. “After Dark is a song that started out as an image: a crowd of people in a room, completely isolated from each other. I was thinking a lot about our inner lives, how we’re so absorbed by our own thoughts that we sometimes obfuscate our responsibility for them. That’s a hard line to navigate,” Wil explains. “The song is essentially an inner monologue, a stream of consciousness reaction to all the shit we say when we’re sad and loose and feeling vulnerable.
